Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot
· In this painting there are two one man and woman and in second painting there are two men waiting for something but it’s not give clear understanding about the picture. Beckett is inspires by this painting and the tree which is in the painting and he setting his play in a same way like in this picture. In the first act there is tree which is the symbol of cross and we find barrenness of the tree but in the second act there are some four or five leaves sprouted in the tree which symbolizes a positivity and hope that may be Godot will come.
· The word “Existentialism” stands for the identity and beingness of human. In the play Vladimir and Estragon wait till end but Godot never come it raises a question of existence of mankind like in this play why Vladimir and Estragon waiting for Godot. May be Beckett has use “Godot” for God and this Godot also raises a question of existence. This play someway considered as a Christian play and for Christian, existentialism religiously lead to God where as according to the atheistic existentialism it is base on the idea of Jean Paul Sartre and Martin Heidegger who state that:
“Man is alone in a Godless universe”
· In the play we also see the master and slave relationship of Pozzo and Lucky. In movie I find that Lucky is tied up with rope and very badly treated by his master Pozzo it shows cruelty of superiority. In the second act Pozzo becomes blind and require some help where Lucky helps his master and its shows the loyalty of Lucky.
· In the reading of play we cannot much understand about the play and its characters but after watching movie in some extent we understand and get the idea something about play and characters.
Thank you...
